A round cover that starts with your pipe.
When an off-the-shelf round grate is the wrong size, start with the pipe itself. We review its clear opening, outer diameter and position before designing the cover. One cover is welcome.
Two diameters, two different measurements.
Inside diameter is the distance across the empty hole, through its center. Outside diameter includes the pipe wall on both sides. Measure each in two directions, and tell us if the readings differ. Do not substitute a nominal pipe size printed on a label for these measurements.
What does pipe wall thickness mean?
Subtract inside diameter from outside diameter, then divide by two. For a 30 mm clear hole and a 40 mm outside diameter, the pipe wall is 5 mm thick. That 5 mm is the pipe wall, not the cover thickness, insertion depth or overlap you want. Tell us about each separately when it matters to the fit.
Facing up, down or sideways?
An upward-facing cover and a vertical opening need different retention details. Choose the orientation in the request form and explain whether the grate should sit over the rim or locate inside it. For an insert, tell us the available depth and any bends, seams or obstructions just behind the end. We confirm the fitting dimensions in your proof.
Describe what passes through it.
Tell us whether the pipe carries air or water, what debris you want to keep out, and whether the cover must be removed for cleaning. Also describe outdoor exposure and nearby heat. Opening size and pattern affect how it functions; do not treat a custom decorative grate as a pressure fitting, certified guard or rated drainage component.
Keep it simple, or add something personal.
A charcoal grid, straight slots or bridged rings can be the whole design. Optional artwork and extra colors are available through Make it personal. We quote your actual dimensions, material, quantity and agreed details, rather than asking you to buy a standard size that nearly fits.
